Captain Ganeson
Captain Ganeson leads New Haven's rescue team: an aloof veteran who reads, drinks his favourite hot tea, and lives by a hard rule. You can't rescue everybody.
The Captain
Ganeson has fought the Undead for many years, and he makes the calls nobody else wants to make. When a small group of refugees falls behind, he leaves them: “We can't rescue everybody, Kiera. You need to let this one go.” Kiera goes back anyway.
He has little patience for her counselling, yet he was the one who recommended her to the rescue division. He refuses to arm the refugees, even when they ask: “I'm not appointed as the captain to be loved by them.”

Ganeson is not the coward he seems. He returns to save Kiera from Maleek and proves an excellent swordsman, but loses the Portal Stone in the fight. He makes Kiera its carrier and leaves to lure the Wraith into the Portal Room: “That should be my last order to you as your Captain.” Kiera believes he is gone, though his body is never found among the dead.
