Pixies and Empaths
Pixies are a people who tap into the raw power of emotions. (Despite the stories, they have no wings.) Those with Empath skills can understand what others feel, and help them steer those feelings toward good.
The power of emotion
An Empath's power grows in a positive environment, and can turn destructive if they give in to hatred. Empaths are rare in the City.
Early in the war, Hezekiah kidnapped Pixies and twisted them with hatred. Some of these corrupted Pixies can make themselves explode.

Through the Parallel Technique, an Empath can carry what happens in the mind into the physical world: “What is true in the realm of the mind can be manifested into the realm of the physical.” Kiera's pendant lets her reach into someone's mind, but only through physical contact.

Whoever wears Kiera's pendant shares an empathy link with her, a heart-to-heart connection. Through it, she can shield their emotions, bring up memories, appear in their mind in another person's form, and even knock them out with an emotional blast.
