Ryo
Ryo is Kiera's partner on New Haven's rescue team: a serious, quiet scout who knows her heart better than anyone, and a formidable fighter with his bare hands. He carries a secret that only Kiera knows.
The partner
Ryo and Kiera arrived at New Haven and joined the rescue operations at the same time. He is not much of a talker, and when he does speak, it is usually to bring Kiera back down to earth: “Do you want the good news or the bad news first?”
He is devastating in close combat. In a single encounter, he brings down six Swordmasters in about ten seconds.

Ryo is the last surviving Time Monk. The Time Monks were an elite order that wielded the element of Time, until Hezekiah wiped them out, and Ryo's wife and baby daughter with them. He can slow time for those around him, but he hides the power even from New Haven's Leadership, and using it leaves him with depression and hopelessness.

Ryo is one half of the Masked Assassin. He believes that, as a Time Monk, “I'm the only one who is capable of killing an immortal.” Captain Ganeson passes on a rumour from New Haven's Leadership that a Time Monk once betrayed his own kind to Hezekiah. Kiera refuses to believe it of Ryo, and the question is left open.

Ryo knocks out Maleek and carries him into New Haven as a prisoner. When Kiera decides to go back alone, he begs her not to: “Kiera, you're not insignificant. You mean a lot to me.”
