The Abandoned Mansion

The abandoned mansion on the hill is where the Swordmasters go to hunt the Masked Assassin, and where much of The Marked Ones unfolds. It is supposed to be abandoned. It is suspiciously well kept.

The mansion on the hill

The mansion has three floors, with an armory, a study, a safe room sealed behind a metal door, and a trapdoor up to the attic. When Gideon's squad arrives, more than thirty ghouls lie in the backyard, some of them burnt, as if someone had already fought a battle there.

Above the attic lies a hidden, torch-lit Strategy Room, filled with Paladin gear.

The mansion was once a Paladin headquarters. Its Strategy Room holds a map of the City, Paladin equipment and a tome called “The Undead We Fight Against.” On the second floor is the Portal Room, where a long-dead portal to New Haven was brought back to life.

The Strategy Room is sealed with a passcode: the Paladins' code, “To live is to serve.”
